SPORTS SCIENTISTS
Realizing the importance of Sports Science for the
enhancement of sports performance, the Institute has established a
Department of Sports Science in the year 2000 under the initial guidance
of foreign experts. The Department at present has five sections namely
Exercise Physiology, Sports Bio-mechanics, Sports Medicine, Sports
Psychology and Scientific Sports Training. The research laboratories of
various sections have been equipped with modern gadgets and instruments.
Certificate Courses in different sport sciences have been started and
measures have been taken to start Diploma Courses in sport sciences, of
one year duration, so as to produce sport scientists for the country.
Sports Sciences have been introduced in certificate courses of various
games and sports.
The Department has started physiological, medical and psychological
testing to identify sports talents and suggest methods and means for
their effective application to enhance performance of trainees.
Assistance is being rendered in the preparation of long and short term
training programmes in order to make the training process more
meaningful and beneficial. A bi-annual Research Journal in Sports
Science is being published to help coaches and sportspersons to get
familiar with the latest trends and developments in the field.
